Guruji B.K.S. Iyengar (1918–2014) stands among the world’s most revered yoga masters, celebrated for his transformative influence on modern yoga practice. His pioneering Iyengar Yoga method is renowned for its emphasis on precision, alignment, mindful sequencing, and innovative use of props—elements that have empowered people of all ages and abilities to experience yoga safely and effectively.
His profound legacy is carried forward through a remarkable lineage. Geeta S. Iyengar (1944–2018), his daughter, specialized in yoga for women's health, developing accessible practices and deepening the role of yoga in holistic wellbeing. Prashant S. Iyengar (b. 1949), his son, expanded the tradition by integrating yogic philosophy, breath awareness, and meditative insight, guiding students towards a deeper union of mind and body. Continuing this legacy, granddaughter Abhijata Sridhar Iyengar (b. 1982) inspires practitioners worldwide by upholding the rigor, depth, and relevance of Iyengar Yoga for contemporary life.
The Iyengar Yoga lineage is globally acclaimed for its unwavering commitment to the art, science, and philosophy of yoga, offering more than physical transformation. Practitioners discover a profound path toward inner balance, resilience, and lifelong personal growth. Whether seeking strength, flexibility, therapeutic benefits, or spiritual enrichment, Iyengar Yoga provides tools and guidance for holistic wellness.
