In today's class, we observed that the ability to keep the feet and legs firm and grounded in standing asanas gave us enough freedom to make repetitive upper body movements. The stability in the lower body allowed mobility in the upper body, without collapsing or losing the lightness and the form of the asana.
Every asana has a grounding factor and with time and practice, we naturally start looking for it. We âhold or ground â one part of the body and âlet go or extendâ another part and with trial and error, reach a stage of balance.Â
In SalabhÄsana- Locust Pose, we grounded the pelvic band which allowed the systematic extension and lifting of the head, shoulders, arms, thighs-till the toe tips. And when we were able to hold for a while in the last attempt, after having pierced beyond that phase of stress and effort, a point of lightness and balance is felt.Â
We definitely experience it at some point .
It is then, that we start looking for that lightness , every time we do our SalabhÄsana. Getting 'sthirata' in SalabhÄsana will eventually become effortless and start leading towards 'sukhata' .
This is when we understand that this state of âsukhâ is the hidden treasure in every asana and we start working towards it with conviction.Â
Conviction from the heart works better than the ego from the head. The heart leads in such a way that we know how to become an asana without getting injured. The confidence and joy of it can only be experienced!
Asana by asana, we embark on a journey. A journey where we learn the aspect of balance in the body first , and the practice percolates to our breath, emotions, lifestyle and conduct. Body strength is just one of the by products of this greater pursuit.
When we look out into the universe, we resonate with the balance of the universe and feel the same within us.Â
The outside - the inside , the within - the without, everything in motion, yet stable in its own balance.Â
And that is Yoga đ
